Ezekiel castigates the King of Tyre in our First Reading today. The King of Tyre had become very rich and decided to join with other groups in fighting against other Babylonians (a real mistake). The king’s problem was not his wealth but that he thought he controlled things. Sometimes, we think we’re really in charge and depend on our own devices for success. Often, it takes a disaster of some sort to wake us up to the fact that we aren’t in control of things. God is. Let us remember this and place our trust in the only one who can really affect the results.
