August 29, 2014 John the Baptist

Today, we honor one of the strangest characters in the NT, John the Baptist. This was a man who lived on the edge, literally, in the wilderness, eating bugs, preaching fiery sermons, etc. He was not one to duck a confrontation, e.g. with Herod Antipas, which led to his death. John is another reminder of the potential cost of discipleship.

People are dying for their faith throughout the world as I write this blog. This is especially evident in Iraq as ISIS is systematically conquering city after city and beheading children. Let us send our prayers to those in harm’s way. These are all modern-day John the Baptists. may God sustain them in their need and change the hearts of those who are perpetrating these atrocities.
