Twenty-third Week in Ordinary Time

All three readings focus on the obligation that Christians have toward one another not only to do what is right but also to help others to do what is right. We need to take seriously God’s words to Ezekiel in today’s First Reading: “If.. you don’t warn [an evil man] to change his ways… I will hold you responsible.” We need to take Paul’s words seriously, “If you love someone, you will never do him wrong.” We need to take Jesus’s words to heart: “If your brother sins against you go to him and show him his fault. But do it privately, just between yourselves.”

Cain, in the Book of Genesis asks:”Am I my brother’s keeper?” Today’s readings respond a resounding: “Yes.”
