Jesus chose to “empty Himself” and die on a cross. Why? (Out of love) “For God so loved the world that He sent His only Son.” The depth of God’s love for the world becomes fully revealed in the death of Jesus on the cross. Through Jesus’ self-emptying obedience, the cross, that sign of ignominy, pain, suffering and death, has become a sign of exaltation. The human tendency is to flee from things that cause pain, suffering, and death. The mystery of the cross challenges us to enter these as a means to life.
So, today, let us exalt; let us praise and thank God that he sent Jesus to be our Lord and savior through His death on the cross. Let us proclaim Christ’s victory over sin and death through the instrument of the cross as we pray: “We adore you ,O Christ, and we praise You, because by Your holy cross You have redeemed the world.” Amen.
