October 18, 2014 (St. Luke)

Today is the Feast of St. Luke, evangelist, and author of the gospel that bears his name and its companion work, The Acts of the Apostles. Tradition says he was a gentile convert to the faith; a physician; and companion of St. Paul. He never saw Jesus, in the flesh, yet, he was absolutely committed to the faith.

How faithful are we to the faith? We haven’t seen Jesus in the flesh either, like Luke. Can we recognize Jesus in Scripture? in the sacraments, especially the Eucharist? in one another?
