November 11, 2014 (Veterans Day)

Today, our country remembers all the veterans of military service who have served the cause of freedom throughout the world. We pray for them and their families. We remember, in a special way, those who gave their lives in the pursuit of freedom. We pray for their families, as well. Today, is also the Memorial of St. Martin of Tours, the patron of soldiers. Martin was the first saint to be given a day in the universal calendar of the church who was not a martyr. He died trying to resolve a conflict in one of his parish churches. Today, let’s also pray for unity and peace in the world. St. Martin was a man of peace. St. Martin of Tours, pray for us.
