During the last two weeks of the liturgical year, our First Readings come from the last book of the Bible, Revelation. We hear the beginning of the text then fast forward to the first of the seven letters to the churches, the letter to the church at Ephesus. This community had done a good job dealing with false teachers, dealing with dogma. But, the author reminds them that they lost “their first love,”; they lost what the reason was for the theology; they were forgetting Jesus Christ, the reason for everything.

This is a good warning to us, as well. Let’s not forget what is the center of our faith, our relationship to Jesus Christ.
