The First Reading today tells us that Isaiah called the Lord God “Israel’s Redeemer.” In the OT, a redeemer was a blood relative who ransomed a relative from slavery. In other words, God would ransom His people, blood relatives/blood covenant) from the bondage of exile in Babylon. Of course, Jesus is our redeemer. He ransomed us from the slavery of our sins by His suffering, death, and resurrection. We are His “blood relatives.” He can release us from the slavery of anything that keeps us from Him and his father. We need to trust in Him!
