Jan. 10, 2015 (“He must increase; I must decrease.”)

John the Baptist realized he was not going to be “ichibon,” “number 1.” There was someone greater than he on the horizon. We all want to be “number 1.” Yet, maybe that’s not what God has in store for us. We need to be ourselves, as the Army puts it, “all we can be.” Or, as Mother Theresa used to say, “God wants us to be faithful not successful.” In God’s eyes, no one is “second best.”

  1. As a person of profound humility, John knew who and what he was; “I am not worthy to loose His sandals.” Jesus then proclaimed that there was no greater man born of woman.

Spirit of God, who am I? What am I? What is the mission you have for me? Will you help and guide me?
