“”Let us condemn him to a shameful death; for according to his own words, God will take care of him.” The Book of Wisdom is one of the books of wisdom literature in the OT. It was written in Greek, rather late, in the First Century before Christ. We normally think of it as providing guidance on how to live a life based on divine wisdom. The section in today’s readings at mass were seen by the early Christians as referring to Jesus in His passion and suffering. It tells of a “just one” who suffers because of his righteousness and has a close relationship with God. When you read it, you will be very touched and see why the person of Jesus comes through. Jesus’ passion is presented in the terms of this reading we have today.
