Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of Holy Week, our First Reading at mass is from Deutero-Isaiah, specifically, from the section of the Book called “The Suffering Servant Songs.” People wonder who the “Suffering Servant” was that Isaiah had in mind: himself, a holy man he knew, or the people of Israel suffering in the Exile. The early Christians saw Jesus in these writings. It was almost a job description for who He was and what he went through. These readings are meant to prepare us for Good Friday.
