April 15, 2015 (John 3:16-21)

“God so loved the world…” Today, we hear from the part of John’s gospel that people hold up at almost all sporting events, John 3:16. God does so love the world. He wants the world to be saved, thus He didn’t send Christ into the world to “condemn the world,” but that the world should be saved through Him. When we fail and sin, we shouldn’t hide it but readily admit our faults and be willing to receive God’s forgiveness. We should bring both the good and the brokenness we have to God. He knows us better than we know ourselves. Why hide?

  1. It seems to me that to say: “God forgives our sins,” is to make only a partial statement.

“The mystery of redemption is that, in Jesus, the ‘Lamb of God,’ our sins are not just forgiven but ‘taken away.’ (A Fresh Look At Confession, Fr. David Knight)
