April 21, 2015 (Acts 7:51-8:1a)

At mass, yesterday and today we hear the story of St. Stephen, the first Christian martyr. We hear how Stephen was “filled with grace and power.” He was one of the first group of 7 who were ordained deacons to “wait on tables.” Quickly, the waiting on tables led to preaching the gospel message. This evangelization led to great personal loss and suffering.

We, too, have been filled with that same “Spirit” through our Baptism and Confirmation. Just like in Stephen’s life, God’s works are revealed in our lives today through how we live out our lives. The Spirit gives us the same grace and power as Stephen to enable us to do God’s will today.
