April 29, 2015 (Catherine of Sienna)

In the midst of our Easter celebration, we have a required memorial for St. Catherine of Sienna. This saint and mystic was unafraid to speak out on the pressing issues of her day. The popes were not living in Rome but were under the influence of the French King in Avignon, France. She pleaded, and pressed the pope to return to Rome where he belonged. She wasn’t afraid to tell the pope: “Cursed be you, for time and power were entrusted to you and you didn’t use them.” She was willing to take a stand even if it meant taking on the pope. How fearless are you?
