May 8, 2015 (John 15:12-17)

“This I command you: love one another.” Unconditional love (love of neighbor and enemy) is not a trait in our modern society. We’re supposed to put ourselves first, not the other. We’re told to look out for “number one,” meaning ourselves. Jesus teaches us that we are “our brother’s keeper,” and we need to care for one another. This is especially true with regards to the poor and vulnerable. We need to show our love by acting in love and charity toward others; seeking justice for others; and forgiving. Jesus demands a lot! But, if the world is to live in peace, then that peace has to begin with each one of us.
