May 12, 2015 (John 16:5-11)

“It is better for you that I go. For if I do not go, the Advocate will not come.” It is clear that the disciples wanted to “hold on to” Jesus after the resurrection. (Remember: Mary Magdalene) But, Jesus says He has to return to the Father before the Holy Spirit will come over His followers. The Church would have to learn to live on without His physical presence and rely on the Spirit to guide it. It was probably a little scary for them as it is for us. “Come Holy Spirit, Creator blest and in our hearts take up Thy rest.”
