June 25, 2015 (Gen 16:1-12)

This is the story about how Sarai gave her servant, Hagar, to her husband Abram so she could have children by Abram through her. Once Hagar becomes pregnant she treated Sarai “with disdain.” Sarai abuses her and she runs away but is told to return for her son, Ishmael, will have “descendants so numerous that they will be too numerous to count.” Thus, Ishmael becomes the father of the Arab people.

God had promised Abram that his descendants “would be more numerous than the stars in the sky.” But, Sarai wants to help God along rather than to totally trust in His word. This is a lesson for us: we must trust even when things seem impossible. Let our prayer for today be: “Jesus, I trust in You.”

  1. Just a note to let you know how much I enjoy your blog posts. Some of the prayers have been so meaningful to me, that I’ve copied them to a file so I can refer to them. Thanks again for creating this blog.
