July 11 is the Required Memorial for one of the greatest saints of the Church, St. Benedict.  He is considered the “Father of Western Monasticism.”  Most rules of monasteries are based on what St. Benedict wrote.  After a failed attempt at founding a community, his monks tried to poison him twice, he realized that any monastic rule should be “in moderation.”  His spirituality was based on “Ora et Labora,”  “Prayer and work.”  And that’s a good guide for us today:  pray and do whatever work God wants you to do.  It is hard to go wrong if we adhere to this.
