July 14, 2015 (St. Kateri Tekakwitha)

Today is a day that was special to a dear friend who recently died, Butsi Lanigan. For the longest time, Kateria needed a second miracle to be declared a saint. Butsi prayed and prayed to Kateri. She prayed for her son, who died from complications of diabetes, and her daughter, who died from an aneurism while getting chemotherapy for her cancer at West Clinic. She eventually declared that she really didn’t care if she ever was made a saint! Of course, she did care. I used to call her every July 14 to wish her a “Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha Day! So, Butsi, “Happy T.K.Day!” Pray for us.

  1. The Lily of the Mohawks is special to my family too. Though I have no proof of being part Mohawk (only my father’s word) my daughter and I have especially felt a kinship with her. One day I will know for sure whether we are bound together by blood or simply by the Spirit of God that makes us one in Christ. Until then – Little cousin, pray for us.
