Sixteenth Sunday of Ordinary Time (2015) (Mark 6:30-34)

“Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest awhile.” Prayer and action are both important in living out our Christian vocation. Both are like the two rails on a train track. They must flow along in life together. Both are absolutely necessary. The danger is that we give priority to one over the other. For example, there is the danger of reasoning that just because I can do little to help the poor that I’ll simply pray for them and leave it at that. As someone once complained: “Lord, why don’t You do something about this ugly situation down here?” There was a pause, then a voice was heard: “I did do something; I made you!”
