July 21, 2015 (Prayer)

“Almighty and eternal God, may Thy grace enkindle in all men love for the many unfortunate people whom poverty and misery reduce to a condition of life unworthy of human beings. Arouse in the hearts of those who call Thee Father, a hunger and thirst for social justice and for fraternal charity in deed and in truth. Grant, O Lord, peace in our days, peace to our souls, peace to families, peace to our country, peace among nations. Amen.” Pius XII

  1. In today’s Gospel, Jesus’ teaching is interrupted by His relatives wanting to speak with Him. I could not let the day pass without commenting on the dignity, the love and the absolutely precious gift that God bestows on those who do the Father’s will. There is a song that declares, “We are family!” And that is what God has made us – FAMILY with Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Beginning with our Baptism and reaching its summit in the Eucharist, God shares with us His Divine Life. His flesh becomes our flesh and His blood mingles with our own.
This means my neighbor too is family and must be respected and loved and treated with the reverence due the brother, the sister and even the Mother of God.
