26th Sunday of Ordinary Time (2015)

(Mark 9:38-43, 45, 47-48) Jesus presents us with much food for thought in the Gospel for the 26th Sunday of Ordinary Time. Following Jesus is not about being a card-carrying Christian; it’s not about a Baptismal Certificate. It does mean doing work in Jesus’ name; avoiding sin; and not causing others to sin. (We call this “scandal.”) It is about living and doing as Jesus did. Each of us must ask ourself: “What do we need to remove (cut off) to keep God’s Kingdom as the center of our lives”? As Christians, we all have to make tough choices but the reward is worth everything.
