Oct. 5, 2015 (Jonah 1:1-2:1, 11)

The Book of Jonah is listed in the Minor Prophets, the Scroll of the 12. It tells the tale of a prophet who is reluctant to go to the Assyrians to preach their repentance and their conversion to avoid disaster. It was probably written as a counter piece to the Book of Ezra. If you will remember, Ezra saved Judaism from extinction, but, in the process, insulated Judaism from other peoples. What I mean is that God only loved and cared for His Chosen people, Israel, and not for any other people. The Book of Jonah tells us that God cares for all people as He made all people in His image and likeness. It is a Book promoting tolerance for others.

Ps. This will be the last Blog until the Blog for Sunday as I will be on retreat. Please keep me in your prayers.
