Oct. 26, 2015 (Romans 11:1-2a, 11-12, 25-29)

When I taught at Southwest Community College, one of the classes had as a reading Steven Covey’s “Principle Centered Leadership.” In the book, Covey makes the argument that “values” should not dictate how we live. For him, values change, even a group of thugs have “values.” Instead, Covey proposed that our personal and corporate lives should be driven by “true North principles.” He meant principles like integrity, sincerity, etc. which never change just like “true North” never moves. In Romans, Paul says that our lives should be directed by the Holy Spirit now that we have accepted Christ into our lives. It’s not so much that we possess the Holy Spirit but that we “surrender” to the Holy Spirit. In that way, we do not live according to “the flesh.”
