Dec. 2, 2015 (Matt. 15:29-37)

“I do not want to send them away hungry.” Today’s passage at mass is very familiar. He feeds the crowd. One can divide the Gospel according to Mark into three sections, each section has a feeding story: the feeding of the 5000, the feeding of the 4,000, and the institution of the Eucharist. The coming of the Messiah was associated with a banquet, much food and wine. God will provide for His people.

God still provides food for His people, the wonderful gift of the Eucharist. Since he feeds us, shouldn’t we feed those around us who are hungry?

  1. How fitting that He who was born in a town called “House of Bread” should share Himself with us in the form of bread. It is also fitting that as we proceed through Advent toward that Little Town of Bethlehem, that we too share our bread with those in need.
