“Simeon blessed them and said to Mary His mother, “Behold, this child is destined for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be contradicted (and you yourself a sword will pierce)…” Today’s gospel reminds us that Mary was always there for Jesus in His needs as a good mother should. (She was there with Him in His passion, suffering and death.) We are reminded that there are other mothers who have their hearts broken, too as they see their children suffer. They can look to Mary as a model Mothering is not easy. Let Mary show the way. Let us ask Mary to pray for all mothers, especially those whose hearts are broken.
