Today, we celebrate the Solemnity of the Epiphany or showing/manifestation/revelation. The word comes from the Greek and means literally “to draw back a veil;” to uncover. In this day, the veil is drawn back on a great mystery, that Jesus Christ is the Savior not only of the Jews, but also the Gentiles, as well. It is God’s will that all be saved. This is the theological meaning of this Feast. God invites all to share equally in the benefits of the salvation won by Christ. In Christ, all have become part of one body, as Paul tells us in his letters. This is a happy Feast! It is an inclusive Feast! We who were once outsiders are now insiders. We who were once aliens have now drawn near and are now part of God’s own household.
