Lent WK5C (John 8: 1-11)

In the gospel for the 5th Week in Lent, Jesus never denies the woman’s adulterous guilt. He just demands that the accusers acknowledge their own guilt in parallel situations. His message is clear and cutting: We can only condemn others after we’ve first eradicated everything in our lives worthy of condemnation.

  1. No matter how “worthy” I feel, I can no longer condemn others. I can pray that they act differently, I may even walk with a placard protesting their actions, but it is not my place to condemn them. To condemn another person is blasphemy, I set myself up as God who is the only one with the right to condemn.
