Wednesday of the Octave of Easter (2016) (Luke 24:13-35)

One of the most touching of the resurrection narratives is the meeting between Jesus and the two disciples on the way to Emmaus. The two meet a “stranger” who seems to be unaware of the recent happenings in Jerusalem. During the meal they share, they realize that this isn’t any stranger, at all. On the road, Jesus had explained the Scriptures to them about Himself. But, it was only in the “breaking of the Bread” that they “knew Him.” They share their discovery with the others disciples, especially how what happened recently to Jesus was all part of a divine plan.
