April 12, 2016 (Acts 6:8-16)

Yesterday, we were introduced to Deacon Stephen. We were told that he is “filled with grace and power,” a man of the Spirit. Today’s reading skips much of his homily which is a great summary of the OT. The death of Stephen parallels the death of Jesus in Luke’s gospel. Just as Jesus prays for forgiveness for His tormentors, so too does Stephen. Luke has modeled Stephen’s death on Jesus’ death in order to teach us that the life of a follower of Jesus is living and dying like Him.
