April 20, 2016 (Acts 12:24-13:5a)

This reading gives us the earliest reference to the ritual of delegation. Some have “hands laid” on them: a call to ministry and gift of the Holy Spirit. We continue this every time our Bishop ordains a deacon or a priest. These individuals are called to a specific mission to preach the Word of God, but all of us had hands laid on us at our Baptism and were signed with the Sign of the Cross. So, all are commissioned by the Holy Spirit to proclaim God’s Word in their own way.
