April 30, 2016 (John 15:18-21)

“If the world hates you, realize that it hated Me first.” The word “world” is used as meaning “human society organizing itself without God.” It happened in the First Century. It’s happening today. The “world” hates anything associated with God. It has taken ‘God” out of as much of society as it can. If you are following Christ’s teaching, you are treated as a fool and despised. How courageously do you stand up against the world? “What does it profit a man to gain the whole world but suffer the loss of his soul?”

  1. Perhaps I have never lived in the “world.” In boot camp after lights out our entire company said the Our Father. Out to sea all of the Catholics gathered on the fantail and said the rosary together. In Civil Service many of our discussions in the break room were of a spiritual nature. Those who were Evangelicals were always asking “are you saved brother.” We answered them with a resounding “Yes, you better believe we are.”
My contribution as a Catholic may only have been to teach them how to find lost items with a prayer to St. Anthony; or to solve an impossible work problem with a prayer to St. Joseph. I often hear about the world and it’s trying to exclude God, but I have never experienced it first hand.
