May 19, 2016 (James 5:1-6)

“Come now, you rich, weep and wail.” For James, the rich are so rotten, even their gold has corroded. Even their hearts are “fat.” When we put too much emphasis on wealth, that wealth can corrode us. What is the focal point in our life? Is it to gain wealth or bring about the Kingdom of God? Do we work for a place where all are treated justly?

  1. Even as we go about serving the poor in the St. Vincent de Paul Society, we have to remind ourselves of the words of St. Gregory the Great: “When we attend to the needs of those in want, we give them what is theirs, not ours. More than performing works of mercy, we are paying a debt of Justice.”
