July 22, 2016 (John 20:1-2, 11-18)

“Jesus said to her, “Mary!” It’s always Easter! Today, we honor Mary Magdalene. 13 years ago, I preached as a Transitional Deacon at the Cathedral on this Memorial. It was the day of “Hurricane Elvis,” the straight line storm that felled trees and took power lines down. One of the assembly said that Mary must not have liked my homily! Of course, she did like it. Mary was the first witness of the Resurrection and the “Apostle to the Apostles” in spreading the Good News. Jesus calls us by name, too. We are called to witness to His resurrection.
