July 23, 2016 (Jer 7:7-11)

Very quietly, we’ve begun to read from the great prophet, Jeremiah, my favorite person in all the OT. His message was not well received by the people of his time but he was speaking exactly what God told him to speak. He suffered greatly and was most like Jesus, Himself. Today, he warns those who thought they would be safe because they had the Temple; they thought the Temple would save them. Jeremiah warns them that only their reformation of their lives would save them. Jesus said, “Not everyone who says to Me,’Lord, Lord,’ shall enter heaven but he who does the will of My Father.” Jeremiah’s words still hold meaning for us. being a “Christian” won’t necessarily save unless we live like one, then God will save us.
