July 25, 2016 (Feast of St. James)

“You do not know what you are asking?’ How often have we asked God for something that was absurd or inappropriate? That’s what James and John’s mother does in today’s Gospel. Jesus has just told the that He will suffer and die and they ask to be His VP and Sec. of State in God’s Kingdom. They obviously saw worldly power as the mark of success. You see the world doesn’t see sacrifice as the path to glory. Jesus’ model of servant leadership is not highly regarded. To do what Jesus demands is true humility. Who wants to be humble?
