Aug. 20, 2016 (St. Bernard of Clairveaux)

St. Bernard was probably the most influential person of his time (12th century). He was an Abbot, a reformer, and great spiritual writer. He had a deep devotion to Mary, the Mother of God. He preached against heresies; founded 68 monasteries; denounced injustice; and worked for peace. He also preached the 2nd Crusade.
