Aug. 27, 2016 (St. Monica)

As you probably know, St. Monica was the mother of the great St. Augustine of Hippo. She is a great example of Jesus’ call to us to be persistent in prayer. She prayed for her husband, a pagan, and the conversion of her son. After many years, St. Augustine heard God’s call to faith. He was one of the most prolific writers of Christianity and is a Doctor of the Church. His day would be Aug. 28, but this year it falls on a Sunday, so it will be skipped. If you are having problems keeping your prayer life up, I would suggest you pray to St. Monica.
