Sep. 8, 2016 (Feast of Nativity of Mary)

This Feast was first celebrated in the Eastern Church in the 4th century in September because the liturgical calendar began in September for them. Its date sets the date for the Immaculate Conception (9 months earlier, therefore Dec. 8). In a certain sense, the acts of our redemption begin with her birth as she will be the one through whom Jesus gets His humanity (The Theotokos, God Bearer). Let us pray for Mary’s intercession in our lives.
