Today and for a few days this week, we’ll hear at mass from one of the Wisdom Books of the OT, namely, Proverbs. It’s a little like reading, “Poor Richard’s Almanac” with the witty little sayings. One from today’s reading is, “Say not to your neighbor, ‘Go and come again tomorrow I will give.'” This particular one reminds me of sayings in the Epistle of James. What might be most amazing is that, even though these sayings were written in a foreign language, centuries ago, in a culture far different from our own, they still speak to us today.
