Sep. 26, 2016 (Job 1:6-22)

Today, we begin a series of readings from another Wisdom Book of the OT, namely Job. Everyone recognizes the name, “Job.” He is associated with “suffering.” Today, we hear about his tragedies and he responds by not cursing God for these problems. He is considered long-suffering. One of the themes of the entire book is the question of why bad things happen to good people. Job can also be seen as “faithful,” as he keeps his allegiance to God no matter what. It is interesting that Job comes from Uz, a Biblical name for Syria. So, long-suffering Job is actually a pagan!
