Dec. 26, 2016 (Feast of St. Stephen)

As we begin the “Octave of Christmas,” that special 8 days of celebrating each day as if it were Christmas Day, we have the Feast of St. Stephen, the deacon and first martyr. In the story of St. Stephen, we see that the church was persecuted from its very beginnings. We shouldn’t be surprised, then, that it is persecuted even today. The church has always grown during time of persecution when valiant men and women are willing to suffer and even die for their faith. Today. let’s pray for those people throughout the world who suffer and die for their faith, knowing that their “reward will be great in heaven.”
