In today’s Gospel, John the Baptist calls Jesus: “The Lamb of God.” John has in mind the image of the lambs that were sacrificed daily in the Temple. In effect, John was saying that Jesus was the only One who can save us from our sins, not those lambs that were sacrificed. Before Holy Communion at mass, the Priest holds the Host above the chalice and says:” Behold the Lamb of God who takes way the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.” Jesus was the Lamb of God because He did the Father’s will and paid the price to save us from our sins. Can we commit to doing God’s will no matter what the price may be? Can we testify to Jesus by living as He did, as a servant, who lays down His life in sacrifice?
