“The scribes and Pharisees’ works are performed to be seen.” There is a story about a young women who decided to volunteer at a soup kitchen. She thought that she’d be cooking or serving food. Instead, when she arrived, she was told to put on an apron and wash dishes. Two hours later, she was tired and her clothes were ruined. She was angry. She vowed never to return. This wasn’t what she expected. Then, she thought about the experience. Was she doing the charity work for herself (to be seen) or for others? She went back for the next two years.
