March 17, 2017 (Genesis 37:3-4, 12-13a, 17-28a)

“They sold Joseph to the Ishmaelites for twenty pieces of silver.” There are people, places, and things in the OT that are called “types,” or “prefigurements” of people, places, and things in the NT. For example, Joseph is a type of Christ (both were sold for pieces of silver, both suffered, and both saved their people from disaster). The difference is that while Joseph saved his people from famine, Jesus saved us from our sins. The types are just shadows of the “real thing.”
