“Blessed are they who have not seen and yet believe.” At the time John’s Gospel was written, many of the original eyewitnesses to the Resurrection had died. So, how do we know that Christ is risen and present in our world? We do so through the eyes of faith. We see the Risen Lord in His Word, Sacred Scripture, in His Sacraments, especially the Eucharist, in the ordained minister, and one another. We encounter the Risen Lord in one another every time we act with love and compassion toward others. The effects of the Resurrection are clearly seen. We are part of the Body of Christ in the world. As such, we must act that way. We must act as He would were He personally present in our world like He was in Palestine 2000 years ago. On this Divine Mercy Sunday, we must remember that Jesus is mercy; we must act mercifully toward one another.
