The First Reading for today (Acts 4:23-31) contains a section which scholars believe actually predates the Passion Narrative. You see, if Jesus was made to suffer and die, Peter is telling his hearers (and us) don’t be surprised if we are made to suffer as well for our beliefs. The news we see and hear today tells us the same thing. Still, we must stand up for our faith no matter what the costs. The Gospel is part of the narrative dialogue between Nicodemus and Jesus where Jesus says we must be born again or born from on high. WE are born from on high through our baptism where we died and rose with Christ to new spiritual life.
