This reading is very humbling. Peter gets into trouble because he is associating with gentiles. The early Christians thought of themselves as Jews and wanted everyone who believed in Christ to conform to Jewish laws like the dietary laws. To associate with the gentiles was to make one ritually unclean. God belonged to them not to these gentiles. We can fall into the same trap when we think we have the “corner on God.” He belongs only to us not to those who aren’t like us. We forget that the “Spirit blows where He wills.” God works through others, even those who are not like us.
