July 3, 2017 (Feast of St. Thomas)

Perhaps, calling St. Thomas “Doubting Thomas” is too critical. Suppose we call him: “Inquisitive Thomas.” Every time he admits that he doesn’t understand and asks a question, we learn more about who Jesus REALLY is. For example, he doesn’t know where Jesus is going and the path there, Jesus tells us that He is: “The Way, and the Truth and the Life.” Or, as today in the gospel, we hear Thomas say: “My Lord and my God.” This is the highest form of Christology in the NT and something many of us say at the Elevation of the Mass.
