The First Reading this morning was the story of Abraham about to sacrifice his beloved son, Isaac. He doesn’t as God tells him that sacrifice of children is not something Abraham’s people should do although the pagans around them often did such a thing. The Church always saw Isaac as a “type,” a prefigurement of Christ Himself. (Both are beloved sons that the father is willing to sacrifice; Isaac, like Christ, carries wood like Christ carried His cross) Christ loved us so much that He was willing to lay down His life. How loved then are you and me.
